How I Used Wikipedia This Week
April 11, 2008
I read something about two luchadores, Santo and his nemesis, The Blue Demon, both classic and archetypal masked Mexican wrestlers.
This led me to read about the Mexican Professional Wrestling League. I’m fascinated and have started a lucha libre shelf on my goodreads profile.
The drama, masks, violence and their resemblance (and differences) to the super-hero comics I have always loved amazes me.
Go forth and have fun with Wikipedia. Look up something frivolous, a television you watched when you were younger, a piece of pop culture or even a historical period and see what Wikipedia brings up on it. Please do share what you find and the paths it takes you on, both in wikipedia and beyond.

Wikipedia actually just served me well too– My group and I were looking for locations in which the Grammy Awards have been held in the past. Wikipedia’s list was a great quick reference, as there didn’t seem to be any concise list of past locations on the Grammy homepage itself.

I took your challenge and looked up the television series “Charmed”. The amount of information was astounding. Being a fan of the series, I found the information to be correct and comprehensive. This is a perfect example of Wikipedia not being completely inaccurate.

It is amazing to me I am in the Philipines right now for the next month and they use reference material from the internet more than I do. One of the people that I am working with mentioned Wikepedia and said the same thing that we all said, that it is not a reliable source, but a good start…..how funny 8000 miles away from the USA and we all think the same thing
